F2W89 Recap – Rocha And Grindatti Become Double Title Holders With Wins In Miami

We love Miami!

That was the consensus from the Fight 2 Win crew following our latest show in South Florida, this time at the Miami Dade Fairgrounds on the east side.

With a Fight 2 Win 89 event card including some of the biggest names and teams in the area, it was a hit with the crowd as well as they cheered on their friends and teammates. The loudest noise came from the teams with the most on the card, which included Roberto Cyborg Abreu’s FightSports Squad along with American Top Team and Carlson Gracie’s Ghost Squad.

In the main event of the evening, Vagner Rocha delivered a win for FightSports and the state of Florida with a unanimous decision over black belt world champion Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes out of Arizona. It was a close match for a while but Vagner took advantage of a passing transition to secure the back and work his python-like submission attack to try and suffocate Tanquinho before the final bell. With the victory, Vagner has now become both the F2W Black Belt Light Weight & Welterweight NOGI champion.

In other title action, Maggie Grindatti defeated Bellator vet and #teamnosleep crew member Brittney Elkin by decision to capture her own double champ status as she now has held both the NOGI purple and brown belt welterweight titles following her recent win over Vanessa Griffin in Maryland.

Honorable mentions on this show include a flying armbar by GFT’s Jake Ferrara plus a nice reverse cradle armbar by Renny Gonzalez. Last but not least goes out to Troy Everett for taking a last minute match against super tough Brazilian Thiago Alves on basically five minutes’ notice.
