Competitor Profile – Rhyan Young (Warrior BJJ)

Describe who you are for those who don’t know you or your accomplishments.

I am Rhyan Young, 33 years (young) and currently live near San Francisco, CA. I lived in Dallas, TX for approx 20 years but moved to CA last year for a new career opportunity. I am have competing in the Dallas grappling scene for the last 7-ish years.

I have won many competitions (gi/nogi) at AGF, NAGA, Grappling Industries, etc. but I am still looking for my first victory at Fight2Win.

Who do you credit for shaping your jiujitsu?

Due to moving, I have had the privilege to train under a few instructors. I would like to think that I was able to learn many valuable techniques/submissions from all of them.  Brandon Quick helped me early on as a white belt, and Jerry Gonzales & Tony Trammell as a blue/purple.

How excited are you for this weekend?

I am really excited to be back home doing this event. Being able to share the stage with my friends I’ve been competing along side me for years is a great experience. Also competing along side several world champions on the main card is an honor.

Why are you looking forward to being on this card?

I have a tough opponent so for the last few months I have been doing 10 min rounds and circuit training to get my cardio up. I feel in the best shape now compared to any previous fight to win matches.

How have you been training to get ready for it?

What do you think of your opponent, Donny King (Mohler MMA)?

I don’t know much about Donny King but from the pictures, I can tell he is a strong opponent. He also comes from a good gym so I know he is going to be prepared as I am and I am looking for a fun and exciting fight!

Any predictions for this match?

Predictions are getting a submission finish. I want to set the pace and play my game. If I stick to the game plan, I can walk away victorious.

Anybody you want to thank?

I want to thank my teammates at Warrior BJJ in San Ramon, Ca which have helped me get ready for my match. Those 10 min rounds have been no joke!
